It was reported that Shanghai actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was going to play former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Shoojit Sircar’s forthcoming film Jaffna. While the actor had just brushed off this news as a rumour, the director Shoojit has come out clearer in his stand. He was quoted saying, “We are still working on the script. We don’t have any character by the name of Rajiv Gandhi. Yes, I am in talks with Prosenjit to play a role in the film. I don’t intend to use any real names of politicians in my film.”
Having impressed the audiences and critics with his astute portrayal of Dr. Ahmedi in the recently-released political thriller Shanghai, Prosenjit Chatterjee is all set to play Rajiv Gandhi in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film Jaffna some days ago.He is a well known tollywood actor who was the supe sta in tollywood for long time.He also set as a actor in some good movies in tollywood like autograph, bhaise sraban, dosar etc.
Considering the film is based in Sri Lanka and highlights the issue of LTTEs, there were rumours that the film may have something to do with Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, which was planned by the organization in 1993.
“Neither is my film dealing with real life incidents in 1991 nor does it have any actor playing any real life politician. It is absolutely wrong to say that Prosenjit is playing Rajiv Gandhi. We are in talks with him to play two characters – one of a cop and the other of an intelligence officer. John Abraham is playing an Indian citizen. My film spans a period of 10/15 years and has no reference to the Rajiv Gandhi assassination,” Sircar further added.
